At UTS:IT we take pride in promoting an active and innovative research culture and a commitment to the development and application of knowledge in computing and information technology.
Many of our academic staff are also involved in research and have strong international reputations in their fields. This means industry leading research programs are conducted here at UTS, by UTS staff and students. UTS:IT is also active in collaborating with industry on many of its research and development programs.
Research at UTS:IT is engaged in three distinct, yet closely related, areas of scientific investigation:
Pure, or strategically-motivated research
Programs in this area of research seek to establish a valid conceptual framework on which to conduct further enquiry.
Mid-stream research
Mid-stream research programs develop and test the theoretical underpinnings of a research hypothesis.
Pre-development research
These programs identify opportunities for commercial application, often working with industry partners to achieve goals.
Many of the research programs at UTS have an emphasis on emerging technologies and the way they can be used to benefit people and the community. Information gained through research programs is also incorporated into undergraduate teaching and learning programs to ensure they are current and relevant to the industry.
UTS:IT research is housed in a range of research laboratories at our city campus. Our researchers have access to state-of-the-art facilities including specialist computer laboratories, 24 hour secure access and a wireless networked building.
