Applying for Postgraduate Research Degrees

In order to be considered for a Research degree, applicants should hold a First Class or Second Class (Division 1) Honours degree with a major computing component, or a Master's degree in an appropriate area, or have previously undertaken other postgraduate studies in computing.

Prospective applicants are expected to have developed interests in a specific area of research, and should have a developed proposal for research work in that area. Before submitting a formal application for admission to a degree course, applicants should first seek the approval of a supervisor within UTS:IT for their proposed research work.

The research strengths can be viewed to ascertain research topics currently being undertaken by both staff and students within UTS:IT. Depending on your area of interest you can then contact by email one or more of the academic staff that are within these research strengths to discuss your research proposal.

In your correspondence it is important that you provide a detailed summary of your previous educational qualifications, research background and a detailed research proposal, and any supporting information you believe would enhance your application (eg: proof of publications), should academic supervision be available for you.

The University Graduate School provides valuable information for prospective applicants relating to scholarship opportunities, writing your research proposal and the enrolment and admission processes for research degrees. You can also download the application forms from the Graduate School website.
