Studying at uni is not always easy, but we have heaps of support services to help you get the most out of your time at UTS.
Orientation
Just before classes begin for undergraduates you will have the chance to go on an orientation camp. This is a great opportunity to meet the other people who will be in your courses, and your teachers, and have some fun as you get to know them better.
UTS also runs orientation programs for postgraduate students. We understand that it not always easy to balance postgraduate study with your work and family commitments. All our postgraduate programs are offered part-time with classes mostly in the evenings to suit busy professionals.
Support
Once you are studying our teachers make sure you do the best you can by offering online teaching support. You don't have to wait for your next class to ask a question, just send them an email!
We also make sure you have everything you need to be able to study when you need to. You will have 24 hour, seven day a week secure access to the building and computers. You can access printing services 24 hours as well, and as an IT student you receive generous free printing quotas.
If you are having trouble with any of the equipment or software, our technical support centre can help you find, and solve, the problem. And if you are unsure about something to do with your course or the uni, our student centre has all the information, and provides a range of administration services for students.
University-wide Support
And that's just the services the UTS:IT offers! The UTS Student Services Unit can help you find a place to live, provide counselling for personal and study problems, help you work out your finances and find a career at the end of your degree. UTS Health Services offers free doctors on campus and subsidised medical services. English Language Study Skills Assistance Centre (ELSSA) can help with English language skills for international students, and academic writing skills for everyone.
International Students
We know that starting university in another country is not easy. To make it easier, and more fun, UTS has a range of services to help you when you first arrive in Australia and all through your degree.
Housing
The services UTS has to help are about more than studying at university. The UTS Housing Service has temporary accommodation you can stay in when you first arrive, and can help you find somewhere permanent to live.
University-wide Services
On our City campus there is a doctor you can see, counselling services you can use if you have personal problems, a financial service if you need help and even a chaplain to talk to. The Student Services Unit provides all these services for students to make sure they are healthy and happy while they study.
At UTS we make sure you have fun outside your classes as well. We have an orientation program for international students before classes start, which is a great way to make new friends, meet your lecturers and get to know your way around the university. Throughout the year there are social lunches where you can catch up with people and relax. Another great way to meet people is by joining a club or society. UTS has over 90 clubs including sporting clubs, religious clubs and clubs just for international students.
English Language Assistance
We are also here to help if you have problems while you are studying. The UTS English Language Study Skills Assistance Centre (ELSSA) can help you if you are having troubles with your English skills, or if you just need some advice about writing an academic essay. Once you are studying our teachers make sure you do the best you can by offering online teaching support. You don't have to wait for your next class to ask a question, just send them an email.
